PUTRAJAYA : From Aug 1, chicken prices here will be set at RM8.50 per kg, the cheapest in the market, says Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

The Federal Territories Minister said this when speaking to the media at the soft launch for Royal Floria Putrajaya 2022 on Thursday (July 21).

He said a slaughterhouse would be built in Precinct 20, Putrajaya to try to continuously maintain the set price for chickens.

“If issues arise for business owners, such as rentals, we will lower the rent, and if a slaughterhouse is too far, they could bring the chickens to Putrajaya and slaughter it here.

“We already have the facilities and warehouses here to conduct the activities, but it is not yet utilised,” Shahidan said.

The chickens sold will be in markets around Putrajaya, sold alongside other organic foods.

On inflation, Shahidan said that while every country was pressured by inflation, Malaysia was maintaining inflation, especially food inflation, at a lower rate.

It was previously reported that the set ceiling price for chicken is at RM9.40 per kg.
