China hands over relief materials for Nepal quake victims

KATHMANDU – Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song handed over relief materials provided by the Chinese government for the victims of the recent Jajarkot earthquake to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

DPM Shrestha expressed his gratitude to the northern neighbour for the gesture as he accepted the aid supplies, which arrived on two Chinese military airplanes at the Pokhara International Airport on Wednesday morning. The shipments brought 4,600 blankets and 600 tents.

Shrestha also noted the historic friendship between the Asian nations, stating that both the countries have been there for one another in times of need, his secretariat said in a press note.

Similarly, Ambassador Chen expressed deep sorrow for the damages caused by the earthquake in west Nepal and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

The Chinese envoy further added that China would always be there for the people of Nepal during times of need while also sharing that President Xi Jinping had also extended his condolences.

The Chinese government has provided additional aid supplies worth Rs100 million, which arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday via the Kerung Pass. The 23 truckloads of materials include 2,300 tents, 2,000 blankets, 700 tarpaulins, and 10,500 mosquito repellents. All the materials will immediately be sent to the affected areas.
