BEIJING – The People’s Liberation Army tracked and monitored a United States warship that transited the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, a military spokesperson said on Wednesday night.

Li Xi, a spokesman for the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command, said in a statement that the guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday and publicly hyped the action.

The theater command organized sea and air forces to track and monitor the entire passage of the US warship, handling it in accordance with the law and regulations, he said.

The theater command’s forces are maintaining a high level of readiness at all times and are determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability, he added.
