BEIJIING – Livestreaming offers a new channel for passing on traditional Chinese music and bringing it to a larger audience.
In a new move to promote traditional Chinese music, China National Traditional Orchestra, a state-level music performance group in China, has teamed up with Douyin Live to launch a special program called “Traditional Chinese Music on Douyin”. Through this plan, more than 100 top musicians from the orchestra are expected to hold 100 online concerts on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, in the coming year.
“We will continue to join hands with internet platforms to explore new ways of popularizing traditional Chinese music,” said Zhao Cong, head of the orchestra, at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday. She continued to say that she hopes such cooperation could help create a new wave of passion for traditional music.
Statistics show more than 3.1 million live broadcasts have been held via Douyin as of June 2022, featuring nearly 90 traditional musical instruments, which has garnered more than 6.1 billion views.
The orchestra will conduct public welfare live performances every Tuesday and launch a series of online courses to help with music education in rural areas.
