China strongly supports Myanmar’s independence and sovereignty, says FM Wang Yi

NAYPYIDAW – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China strongly supports Myanmar’s independence and sovereignty and opposes the EAO groups’ attacks on towns and villages in Shan State.

Mr. Wang Yi delivered the statement during a meeting with the delegation he led yesterday, August 14, in the lobby of the State Planning and Administration Council Chairman’s office in Nay Pyi Taw.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the State Planning and Administration Council, Prime Minister General Min Aung Hlaing, and the Joint Secretary of the Council, Lt. Gen. Ly Win Oo, U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of State Planning and Administration Council Chairman’s Office (2) Union Minister U Kiko Hlaing; Major General Zaw Min Tun, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and officials attended, members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

H. Eml. has agreed to be appointed as China’s ambassador to Myanmar with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ms l. Ma Jia Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Sun Weidong Asia Special Representative Mr. Deng Xijun and members are said to have also attended.

During the meeting, the Chairman of Uta Naska, the Prime Minister, said that China and Myanmar are good neighbours and old friends, and they have built a community together in accordance with the five principles of peaceful coexistence. He said that their dialogue will further improve the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

FM Wang Yi said that Myanmar is a country that is a good neighbour and old friend of China. China firmly supports Myanmar’s independence and sovereignty. He also expressed his support for the National Planning and Administration Council’s implementation of the five forward processes for the stability and development of the country and preparations for holding a free and fair multi-party democratic general election. He said that China should cooperate seriously for Myanmar’s stability and peace. It is reported that China has expressed its opposition to the attacks on towns and villages by EAO groups in Shan State.

Issues related to friendship and cooperation between the two countries, as well as defence cooperation issues; and Myanmar’s internal peace and stability in the border region were also discussed.
