SINGAPORE – A Chinese information technology technician and his wife who undressed and exposed themselves at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) were found guilty of public obscenity and fined RM5,000 (S$1,500) each at a court in Sepang, Selangor, on Feb 17, Malaysian media reported.

Xu Jianfeng, 27, and his wife Shi Qian, 28, pleaded guilty to the offence on Feb 14. They were represented by Malaysian lawyer Chew Sin Yee and their charges were read to them in Mandarin at the sessions court.

Xu undressed and exposed his underwear near a boarding entrance at KLIA2 at 11.33am on Feb 9.

Shi, a teacher, undressed and exposed herself at a different boarding terminal at the same airport at 11.55am on the same day.

The pair told Malaysian media that they had descended into emotional turmoil after hypnotising themselves in a bizarre psychological game, with Xu identifying himself as the “king of the universe” and Shi an “AI (artificial intelligence) robot”.

After they were arrested at KLIA2 on Feb 9, they were taken to hospital for treatment.

After they were discharged, Xu and Shi apologised via local media for their behaviour and for causing the flight they were supposed to take to be delayed.

A video clip circulating online shows the pair being escorted off a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport in Guangdong province, China, after causing a commotion on the plane.

Shi appears to be muttering incoherently in the video.

Xu and Shi were reportedly on holiday in Malaysia from Feb 5. When they did not return to China on Feb 9 as expected, one of their family members posted on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu, or RedNote, seeking information about them.
