Covid-19 positivity rate up in Metro Manila, 14 provinces

MANILA, Philippines — The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate increased in Metro Manila and 14 other provinces from March 25 to April 1, the independent analytics group OCTA Research said on Monday.

“In the National Capital Region (NCR), it increased from 3.2 percent to 4.4 percent,” OCTA fellow Guido David said in a social media post.

Despite the increased rate, it is still below five percent, which is the World Health Organization’s threshold for containment of the coronavirus.

David said the nationwide positivity rate stands at 4.9 percent.

Aside from NCR, David said the positivity rate in the following provinces likewise rose over the same period:

Batangas – 1.9 to 2.4 percent

Benguet – 3.3 to 5.5 percent

Bulacan – 1.6 to 1.8 percent

Camarines Sur – 10.1 to 10.4 percent

Cavite – 2.4 to 3.6 percent

Cebu – 2.8 to 4.7 percent

Davao del Sur – 5.9 to 7.7 percent

Iloilo – 0.7 to 1.9 percent

Isabela – 2.9 to 6.2 percent

Laguna – 3 to 4.7 percent

Negros Occidental – 2.3 to 2.8 percent

Pampanga – 2.0 to 4.8 percent

Pangasinan – 1.8 to 2 percent

Zamboanga del Sur – 0.7 to 2.2 percent

“It increased to or remained at moderate in Benguet, Camarines Sur, Davao del Sur and Isabela,” David said.

The positivity rate in South Cotabato also decreased from 9.3 to 8.6 percent – also within the moderate level, he added.

David noted that while the positivity rate in Misamis Oriental inched down from 27.5 to 27.4 percent, it is still deemed high.

In the Philippines, there are 9,080 active COVID-19 cases with 305 fresh infections recorded on Sunday.

A total of 107 new cases were logged in Metro Manila, and 25 from Misamis Oriental.
