DHAKA – A crude bomb explosion today at the Karwan Bazar intersection around 7:40pm has triggered a jurisdictional dispute between Tejgaon and Kalabagan police stations, with both sides confirming the incident but denying responsibility for the area.
Officials said miscreants hurled the crude bomb at the busy intersection, though no casualties were reported.
Tejgaon police claimed the blast occurred within the Kalabagan Police Station’s jurisdiction, while Kalabagan police insisted the location fell under Tejgaon’s authority.
After being contacted, Mobarak Hossen, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Police Station, told The Daily Star, “We heard about an incident at Karwan Bazar intersection, but it falls under Kalabagan’s jurisdiction. Please contact them for details.”
On the other hand, Rafiqul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Kalabagan Police Station, said, “This area falls under Tejgaon Police Station. I don’t know why Tejgaon is denying it. A blast occurred: what is there to deny? If they don’t want to take responsibility for this area, they can say so, and we will take it.”
