BANGKOK – Democrat spokesman Rames Ratanachaweng told a press conference on Thursday that party leader Chalermchai Sri-on had set up a committee to investigate the 45-year-old politician, whose name was withheld.
Speaking at the party’s Bangkok head office, Rames said Chalermchai ordered the probe to deliver its findings in three days and added the female politician would be expelled if there was evidence she had conducted an affair with her adopted son, a Buddhist monk.
Rames said he had learned of the alleged affair on Wednesday after a well-known Facebook page posted a video clip allegedly showing the female politician naked in bed with the monk. He said he immediately informed Chalermchai, who took instant action.
In the clip, posted by Facebook page I Sor Khayi Kkhao, the politician’s husband appears to return to his house upcountry to find the saffron robes of a Buddhist monk outside his bedroom on March 22.
He enters the room while taking the video and discovers his common-law wife and the monk together on the bed. The husband is heard angrily shouting, “Are you two very happy?”, while the wife shouts, “Stop, stop, you have no rights”.
The Facebook page said the husband had suspected his wife of conducting an affair for some time, so he returned home from Bangkok without informing her.
The page said the husband has now ended his relationship with the female politician and the 24-year-old monk has left the monkhood and gone into hiding.
Rames stated that if true, such behaviour would violate the party’s code of ethics and the politician would have to be expelled.
