DHAKA – A group of private university students said yesterday that they will launch a Dhaka blockade on Friday if the newly announced central committee of Bangladesh Gonotantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) is not dissolved.

“If our demand is not met, we will go ahead with the blockade,” said MJH Manju, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s Private University Unit.

He also announced protest programmes at private universities for today.

The announcement came during a road blockade in front of Rupayan Tower in Banglamotor last night.

The developments followed an attack on the students by BGCS supporters, which took place yesterday afternoon at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen.

Tensions flared as private university students, who played a significant role in the July uprising, found themselves excluded from the newly formed committee. In response, they demanded its immediate dissolution.

As they chanted slogans against the new student body, supporters of the organisation allegedly attacked them.

In retaliation, the agitated students blocked the road in front of Rupayan Tower from 9:45pm to 10:45pm, causing significant traffic congestion in the area.
