Dhaka temperature breaks another record

Amid a severe heatwave, the capital recorded its highest temperature in decades, with the mercury soaring to 40.5 degrees Celsius.

DHAKA – Amid a severe heatwave, the capital today recorded its highest temperature in decades with the mercury soaring to 40.5 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department put Dhaka’s temperature at 40.4 degrees Celsius, which was the highest in 58 years.

The highest temperature recorded in the capital today was 40.5 degrees Celsius, Abdul Alim, a meteorological assistant at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star.

BMD said the suffering of people is likely to continue for a few more days as the severe heatwave, which is sweeping through Khulna division and Dhaka, Fardipur, Manikganj, Rajshahi, Pabna and Patuakhali districts, will continue.

Chuandanga recorded the highest temperature of the country today with 41.8 degree Celsius. Yesterday, the district recorded 42.2 degree Celsius.

Jashore also saw the same temperature, 41.8 degree Celsius, today.
