HANOI — The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Association in Russia, welcomed and repatriated Vietnamese people who had evacuated from Donetsk in eastern conflict-hit Ukraine to Russia from May 29-31.
There were 11 evacuees, including four children, travelling from Donetsk to Rostov-on-Don City (Russia), who received further support from the local Vietnamese community.
On the morning of May 29, representatives of the embassy and members of the Vietnamese Association in Russia went to Kazan rail station in Moscow to pick up the delegation from Rostov-on-Don and take them to the embassy to complete the necessary procedures.
Eight of them returned to Việt Nam on a Qatar Airways flight departing from Sheremetyevo airport on the evening of May 31.
During their stay at the Vietnamese embassy, Ambassador Đặng Minh Khôi visited, heard of their challenges in Donetsk, and wished they would overcome their difficulties soon and stabilise their lives when returning to the homeland.
Trương Thanh Long, born in 1964, on behalf of the Vietnamese group from Donetsk, said they were grateful for the help from the embassy and their fellow compatriots.
Nguyễn Tùng Lâm, head of the embassy’s Desk for Consular Affairs, said that the desk had maintained contact with Russian authorities at border gates and the Vietnamese communities in Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh and Krasnodar to promptly support Vietnamese evacuees from eastern Ukraine.
