MANILA, Philippines — Health Undersecretary Eric Tayag on Tuesday reported that holiday COVID-19 hospitalizations were low.
Tayag said the Department of Health team visited hospitals to check their preparations for COVID-19 and fireworks injuries at Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire’s request.
“Kami’y masaya, bagama’t may mga pasyente po na sa mga ospital, ay hindi naman ganun kadami at masasakripisyo ang serbisyo ng ospital para sa ibang karamdaman,” said Tayag when asked about COVID-19 patients on Teleradyo.
(We are happy because while there are patients in the hospitals, there were not that many COVID patients that hospital services for other ailments were not sacrificed).
However, the number of COVID-19 patients and fireworks-related injuries treated in hospitals was not provided.
While there are fewer daily COVID-19 cases, Tayag still urged the public to get tested for COVID-19.
“Inaasahan natin na mayroon pa ring kasi na irereport. Sana, sa mga kababayan natin, kung may mga sintomas po kayo at nagdududa kayo na COVID, magpa-test po kayo para nalalaman natin ang dami ng bilang ng COVID sa ating bansa,” Tayag said.
(We expect that there will still be cases reported. So, hopefully, to our fellow countrymen, if you have symptoms and have doubts if it’s COVID or not, get tested, so we know the number of cases in our country).
