BOGOR – The death toll from the mosque collapse in Bogor on Sunday has risen to four, while dozens of injured victims remain hospitalized. One of the victims, a 30-year-old woman identified as Yuli, died on Sunday night after being treated in critical condition at Ummi Hospital in Bogor.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. in Sukamakmur Village, Ciomas Subdistrict, when the two-story mosque collapsed during a sermon commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad. The religious gathering was attended by around 150 local residents.
As the event was underway, the structure gave way, burying many of the worshippers under the debris.

Ciomas Police Chief Comr. Iwan Wahyudi said the mosque was relatively new but appeared unable to withstand the weight of the large crowd.
“The mosque was built on sloped terrain, which was already considered unstable. It has been used before for religious gatherings, but typically only about 30 people would attend. On this occasion, the event attracted between 150 and 200 people from surrounding districts,” Iwan said on Sunday as quoted by Kompas.id.
At least 85 others were injured in the collapse, with more than a dozen victims still receiving treatments in several hospitals in Bogor and in nearby Jakarta.
Nyai Sobariah, 52, a resident of Sukaharja Village, Ciomas Subdistrict, was among those injured in the collapse. She suffered a fractured pelvis and is currently receiving treatment at PMI Hospital in Bogor.
Speaking on Tuesday, Nyai recounted that the building collapsed just minutes after she arrived at the mosque.
“I had just arrived and hadn’t even had the chance to sit down when I heard a cracking sound. Then the entire building collapsed. I fell about three meters into a ravine in a sitting position,” she told The Jakarta Post.
Another survivor, Aah, 60, a resident of Ciapus Village, Sukaluyu Subdistrict, who is also receiving treatment at PMI Hospital for a fractured jaw, recalled noticing structural damage moments before the collapse.
“As soon as I entered the mosque and sat on the mat, I saw the floor tiles start to crack. We tried to move away from the cracks, but the building suddenly gave way. I was hit by falling debris on my face and all my teeth were knocked out,” she told the Post.
Supriadi, 39, a local resident, said multiple members of his family were among the victims of the mosque collapse, including his wife, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law and his wife’s 3-year-old niece.
“My wife had to undergo surgery after suffering a severe concussion in the collapse, while my mother-in-law was transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta because of the severity of her injuries,” he said.

In response to the tragedy, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar has handed over Rp 150 million (US$9,127) in aid as a contribution toward reconstruction efforts of the collapsed mosque.
“This is a form of support to ensure that religious activities in the community can resume as soon as possible,” he said on Sunday, as quoted by Tribunnews.com.
Nasaruddin also said that all victims will receive financial assistance from the National Alms Agency (Baznas), and that the Bogor administration will cover all hospital treatment costs for the injured.
