DHAKA – Workers of a garment factory blocked a part of the ​​Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur demanding arrears of two months.

This created long tailbacks on both sides of the highway, causing sufferings to passengers and drivers.

Workers of Self Innovation Fashion Limited blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Hariken area in Gacha thana of Gazipur metropolitan at 9:15pm.

Industrial Police Sub-Inspector Ismail Hossain said the workers complained that they have not been receiving their salaries for the past two months.

Despite repeated demands to the factory authorities, no solution has been found.

Upon receiving the information, industrial police and local administration officials reached the spot and started discussions with the workers.

Ziaur Kabir Khokon, president of the Gazipur Garment Workers Trade Union Centre, said, “Several hundred workers of a ready-made garment factory in the Hariken area of ​​Gazipur took to the streets demanding payment of outstanding salaries.

“I think arrangements should be made to pay the salaries as soon as possible.”
