HONG KONG – The Hong Kong government on Tuesday launched a QR code system for residents who had recovered from COVID-19 so that they could be exempted from the vaccine mandate to enter specified premises under the vaccine pass.

Starting from Tuesday, people who had recovered from COVID-19 could download the recovery record QR code through the COVID-19 Electronic Vaccination and Testing Record System, the government said in a statement.

The move aims to facilitate the use of the vaccine pass by recovered people as the second stage of the vaccine pass will commence on April 30, the government said

They can also download the QR code using “iAM Smart” or the latest version of “eHealth” mobile applications.

“The move aims to facilitate the use of the vaccine pass by recovered people as the second stage of the vaccine pass will commence on April 30,” the government said.

During the second stage of the vaccine pass, residents are required to be double-jabbed to enter specific premises, including restaurants, supermarkets and shopping malls.

The third stage of the vaccine pass will begin on May 31 when residents must get a third dose to enter some premises.

People who download the recovery code via the online system need to provide their identity information, along with the month of discharge from the hospital or positive test results.

Isolation orders issued by the Department of Health will also include the recovery record QR code starting from Tuesday.

The recovery record QR code is valid within 180 days from the date of recovery, during which recovered people may present the code as a substitute for the vaccination record to enter specified premises under vaccine pass.

They may also save the recovery code in the “LeaveHomeSafe” mobile application to facilitate scanning when entering a vaccine pass premises subject to active checking, the government said.

Recovered people who had received two or three doses of a vaccine are not required to receive additional doses to comply with the vaccine pass requirement.

As for recovered people who had not been vaccinated or who had only received one dose of a vaccine, they must receive the required dosage of vaccine during the validity period of the recovery record QR code.

“They should also use the vaccination record QR code with their recovery status incorporated in order to continue to comply with the vaccine pass requirement,” the government said.

As a transitional measure before June 30, recovered people may still present the relevant proof of recovery or infection for vaccine pass purposes.

Hong Kong logged 600 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the infection tally during the fifth wave of the pandemic to 1.18 million.
