HONG KONG – The nation’s two sessions, held earlier this month, offered important guidance for Hong Kong young peoples’ future development, and they were encouraged to keep abreast of the nation’s major policies to seek greater development opportunities, political heavyweights said.

Officials and Hong Kong delegates of the two sessions — the annual respective meetings of the National People’s Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference — made the call at a sharing session on Thursday, which was oriented to the city’s young people.

Song Lai, an official of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said President Xi Jinping’s speech at the closing ceremony of the two sessions provides important guidance for Hong Kong to play its role in China’s modernization, which will surely bring significant opportunities for Hong Kong’s long-term economic and social development.

He called on Hong Kong young people to actively study the speech and give full play to their potential to promote the development of city and the nation.

Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, a national political adviser from Hong Kong, said Hong Kong youth have a great role to play in showcasing the nation’s achievements and latest development to the world. He encouraged them to make good use of Hong Kong’s advantages to contribute to the nation’s modernization.

Another CPPCC member, Alex Yeung Ching-loong, who is also the executive director of Emperor International Holdings, vowed to inspire local youths’ interests in aerospace and inno-tech through outstanding films. The films can serve as a good platform to tell good stories of Hong Kong, of the nation and “one country, two systems” to global audiences, Yeung said.

Xiu Yuan, president of Relay China Youth Elite Association, said his association has gathered a wealth of young people’s strength in the mainland and Hong Kong. He vowed to make good use of the network and better leverage the talents’ wisdom to contribute to national development.
