BEIJING – With this summer becoming the highest-grossing box office season to top the same period over three years, the big-screen giant IMAX has also seen its summer revenue in China soar high thanks to the country’s efficient control of pandemic resurgences.
On Thursday, IMAX China announced that its box office soared to 303 million yuan ($43.9 million) over the summer holiday period, up 34 percent year-on-year.
Currently, a total of 680 IMAX theaters have reopened in the Chinese mainland, representing approximately 90 percent of the IMAX China network, according to the company.
A total of eight Hollywood and Chinese tentpole films were released in IMAX theaters during the summer holiday, with the Chinese sci-fi comedy Moon Man leading the run to become IMAX’s highest-grossing film this summer, followed by Jurassic World: Dominion.
Statistics from the live trackers Beacon and Maoyan show that China grossed an overall box-office taking at 9.1 billion yuan from June to August, increasing 23.7 percent compared to the same months last year.
