DHAKA – A cabinet minister in India’s New Delhi belonging to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party resigned today (October 9, 2022), a day after a video emerged about his presence at a “religious conversion” event where hundreds of people renounced Hinduism and adopted Buddhism.

Delhi’s Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam stepped down after he came under fire from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which accused AAP of hurting sentiments and demanded that the party remove him from his position, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

A Delhi BJP delegation had also filed a complaint against the minister.

Gautam, who had attended the “religious conversion” event earlier this week, had said on Friday that he did not speak against anyone’s faith, and accused the BJP of “propaganda”.
