NEW DELHI – Amid its worst operational meltdown, IndiGo on Thursday announced an additional compensation of Rs 10,000 for passengers who were left stranded at airports between December 3 and 5.
In a statement posted on X, IndiGo said the airline will offer travel vouchers of Rs 10,000 to its severely affected customers.
The vouchers, the airline said, will be valid for the next 12 months and can be redeemed for any future IndiGo flights.
“IndiGo regrettably acknowledges that part of our customers travelling on 3/4/5 December 2025 were stranded for many hours at certain airports and number of them were severely impacted due to congestion. We will offer travel vouchers worth INR 10,000 to such severely impacted customers. These travel vouchers can be used for any future IndiGo journey for the next 12 months,” the airlines said.
These vouchers will be in addition to the flight ticket refunds and the compensation of Rs 5,000 to 10,000 set by the government.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline with over 60 per cent market share, plunged into a severe operational crisis last week, leading to cancellation of thousands of flights.
Disruptions in IndiGo’s services led to chaos at airports across the country and left thousands of passengers stranded.
The airline attributed the disruptions in its flight services to a host of issues, including minor technical glitches, adverse weather conditions and the implementation of Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) Phase II.
The disruptions began at the start of December as the aforementioned issues resulted in crew shortage and a decline in its on-time network performance.
Following the crisis, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ordered an investigation and the airline was told by the Civil Aviation Ministry to curtail its operations by 10 per cent.
Meanwhile, the DGCA has once again summoned IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers to submit a detailed report on the recent disruptions in the airline’s flight and other services.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Civil Aviation Ministry had also summoned Elbers to review the measures taken by the airline to stabilise its operations.
