JAKARTA – The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has recommended 780 polling stations (TPS) to carry out revotes or vote recounts amid reports of issues in the voter roll.
Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty said on Wednesday that the revote would be held across 229 regencies/cities and 38 provinces, as reported by cnnindonesia.com.
She said that 542 polling stations have already received their respective revote and recount schedules from the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Additionally, hundreds of other polling stations were instructed to hold a follow-up vote or vote counting due to delays in election processes in the respective polling stations.
Bawaslu recommended 132 polling stations to conduct a revote or recount while another 584 polling stations to conduct postponed voting or recounting, Antara news agency reported.
In total, Bawaslu has issued recommendations for 1,496 polling stations, which are to be carried out no later than 10 days after the general election, or by Feb. 24 at the latest.
“The recommendations are issued to ensure the purity of the voters’ right to vote, ballots and data from the vote count at polling stations,” said Lolly on Wednesday, as quoted by Antara.
The Bawaslu official added that the recommendations were issued based on the election watchdog’s findings of voting issues, wherein many voters who do not have an electronic identity card (e-KTP) were not registered on the final voter list (DPT) and additional voter list (DPTb) for the 2024 election.
Other issues include mismatches between e-KTP holders’ domicile and their voting location, discrepancies in ballot papers for DPTb voters and instances of multiple voting.
The recommendation for follow-up voting and counting was prompted by factors like riots, security disturbances, natural disasters or other disruptions that prevented voting or vote tallying at polling stations from being conducted properly.
