KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat has received a notice that it will begin sitting on Oct 3.
The Budget will be tabled on Oct 7 as reported.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun confirmed that he had received a notice from the Prime Minister as the Leader of the House.
He will now have to inform Members of Parliament about the change in date for the tabling of Budget 2023.
A minimum 28-day notice is required to inform the 222 MPs of any change of date.
The tabling of Budget 2023 was earlier fixed for Oct 28.
Moving the Budget forward to the first week of October sparked off speculation that Parliament would be dissolved immediately after its presentation.
Finance Minister Datuk Tengku Zafrul Aziz is expected to table the Budget.
Analysts have predicted that should Parliament be dissolved after Oct 7, it is likely that the polling will take place by the end of November.
December is when monsoons would have typically set in and many areas in the East Coast experience floods, which will hamper the voting process.
