TOKYO – A T-4 training jet plane of the Air Self-Defense Force may have crashed into Iruka Pond in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, on Wednesday, according to a report received by the Defense Ministry.
The jet took off from the ASDF’s Komaki Airbase in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture, around 3 p.m. on the day and then disappeared from radar.
It was reported two pilots were aboard and authorities including the ASDF were searching for them.
According to Aichi prefectural police, several emergency phone calls were received to alert that something like a plane had crashed into the pond in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture, around 3:10 p.m. Callers reported hearing loud noises.
Authorities believed the fallen object to be the ASDF plane. A local fire department was verifying the facts.
There was no report of civilian casualties, according to the Aichi prefectural police’s Inuyama Police Station.
