TOKYO – An official announcement is expected soon.

The Thai team secured its first victory in the 2026 World Cup Qualifying Round, Asia Zone, defeating Singapore 3-1, to move to second place in Group C with three points.

After the match, coach Polking was seen bidding farewell to fans and players but he refrained from discussing his future.

Recent reports from news.yahoo.co.jp indicate that Ishii is in the process of being appointed to lead the Thai national team.

The Thai campaign in the 2026 World Cup qualifying round got off to a bad start when they lost their opening match 1-2 to China at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The team, however, bounced back to win the next game against Singapore.

Ishii was previously the head coach of Buriram United and Kashima Antlers in the J1-League. He was involved in discussions about taking over the Thai team during the last King’s Cup tournament but returned home after unsuccessful negotiations.

However, the recent loss against the Chinese team seems to have revived talks.

As of now, there has been no official announcement from the Football Association of Thailand, or Nuanphan Lamsam, the team manager.
