VIENTIANE – Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has discussed ways to strengthen ties with his counterparts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and the Deputy Prime Minister Of Vietnam in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Prime Minister was in Dubai to attend the 2025 World Governments Summit taking place from February 11 to 13 at the invitation of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
During the talks with Sheikh Mohammed on February 12, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
They agreed to encourage the UAE’s investors to visit Laos to explore investment opportunities in agriculture, industry, tourism, hydropower, and mining, among others.
The strengthening of partnership in this regard can be built on the success story of UAE businesses that are active in dry port services at a special economic zone in the central Lao province of Savannakhet.
Meanwhile, Lao businesses have imported some materials from the Gulf country.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties next year, PM Sonexay invited Sheikh Mohammed to visit Laos to further enhance relations.
PM Sonexay thanked his host for the invitation to attend the 2025 World Governments Summit and for the warm hospitality extended to his delegation.
During talks with Kuwait’s Prime Minister, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on February 11, the two prime ministers said they highly valued their countries’ bilateral ties. Laos and Kuwait established diplomatic relations on July 14, 2008.
PM Sonexay encouraged Kuwaiti investors to visit Laos to explore investment opportunities in areas of potential, including clean energy, industry, agriculture, services, and tourism, among others.
The Lao leader expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government and people of Kuwait for the assistance extended to Laos, notably in the fields of agriculture and energy.
To further enhance ties, PM Sonexay invited Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah to pay an official visit to Laos.
During talks with Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance the great friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
They agreed to push the relevant ministries and agencies to jointly work to fulfil cooperation agreements reached upon by their politburos and governments, notably cooperation in economic affairs.
Through Mr Son, PM Sonexay conveyed his warm greetings to Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính and other Party and state leaders as well as the people of Vietnam.
