Large-scale carnival to celebrate 26th anniversary of HKSAR

The carnival will showcase the country’s home-grown dried goods, specialty cuisines, ethnic handicrafts, and clothing from 26 provinces.

HONG KONG – Twenty-six Chinese mainland provincial associations in Hong Kong will jointly launch the Hometown Market Carnival in early June in the city for the first time, to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR Zheng Yanxiong have been invited to attend the launch ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The carnival will have over 200 booths showcasing the country’s home-grown dried goods, specialty cuisines, as well as ethnic handicrafts and clothing from 26 provinces

The provincial associations include the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organizations, HK Federation of Fujian Associations, Federation of HK Guangxi Community Organizations, HK Federation of Hainan Community Organizations, and United Zhejiang Residents Association (Hong Kong), and others.

The carnival will have over 200 booths showcasing the country’s home-grown dried goods, specialty cuisines, as well as ethnic handicrafts and clothing from 26 provinces. The organizing committee of the carnival has arranged for 10 featured cultural performances exhibiting the unique cultural heritage of the provinces of Fujian, Sichuan, Shandong and Guangdong.

In the news conference on Monday, the organizing committee said the purpose of the carnival is to boost domestic consumption, enrich Hong Kong residents’ understanding of the country’s rich and diverse provincial cultural heritage; and contribute to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.

The carnival will be held in Victoria Park on June 3, 4 and 5.
