BEIJING – The Chinese mainland will suspend some tariff cuts on imports from Taiwan from Jan 1, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council said in a statement on Wednesday.

The decision came on the heels of Taiwan unilaterally adopting discriminatory measures such as prohibitions and restrictions on the import of mainland products, which clearly violates the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement.

The statement said the Chinese mainland will suspend the tariff cuts agreed in ECFA for 12 products from Taiwan, including acrylic and p-xylene, and set new tariffs in accordance with the relevant provisions in force, urging Taiwan to take effective measures to remove the unreasonable trade restrictions.
