PETALING JAYA – A total of 237 premises were affected in the fires that razed a neighbourhood in Putra Heights earlier Tuesday (April 1), says the Fire and Rescue Department.
Some 88 premises, comprising 78 homes and 10 shoplots, were burnt, said director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
He said that the fire that began 8.10am was successfully extinguished at 3.45pm Tuesday.
“Now, we will be inspecting the houses again to eradicate any possible fire risks.
“We will also be inspecting the external wiring in houses,” he told reporters at the scene.
The inspections, he said, will last about 24 hours.
Nor Hisham said there were 305 victims, with 125 sustaining injuries.
Some were referred to the hospital for further treatment.
“Those injured suffered burns to exposed areas on the body.
“We have also requested the Health Ministry to monitor possible cases of victims inhaling heat particles,” he said.
A total of 325 personnel across 20 agencies were present to aid operations.
“The cause of the fire is also still being investigated,” he said.
Earlier Thursday, the inferno broke out in Putra Heights on Jalan Putra Harmoni, with residents scrambling to safety as it grew to several storeys and blasted sand and gravel kilometres away.
