YANGON – A man who fell into a 1,000-foot-deep gorge in northern Shan State and was trapped for six days has been rescued alive, according to the Myanmar Fire Service.
The incident occurred when a person fell into the 1,000-foot-deep Nam Saung Haung cliff near Naung Pis village, Pin Pao village tract, Kyaukme township, northern Shan State.
The person who fell was Aik Mone, 29, from Naung Pis village. He had been trapped in the gorge for six days. He was rescued alive by the Kyaukme District Fire Department at 2 p.m. on December 8.
Aik Mone, a resident of Naung Pis village, slipped and fell while catching squirrels near the Nam Saung Haung cliff on the morning of December 3. He was unable to climb back up because the cliff was too deep, and he was trapped in the cliff, starving.
His family members discovered him falling into the cliff on December 7 and notified the Kyaukme District Fire Department, who were able to rescue him from the Kyaukme District Fire Department.
He did not suffer any major injuries, according to the report.
