Memorial Mass for Pope Francis held in Seoul

Memorial services have been held at churches across the country since Wednesday as South Koreans continue to mourn the passing of the Pope, who made a visit to Seoul in 2014.

SEOUL – A memorial Mass for Pope Francis was held Thursday morning at Myeongdong Cathedral, the symbolic heart of Korean Catholicism in Seoul, with hundreds of mourners in attendance.

The service was led by Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung and Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick, along with clergy from the Archdiocese of Seoul. Memorial services have been held at churches across the country since Wednesday.

South Koreans continue to mourn the passing of the Pope, who made a visit to Seoul in 2014.

As of Wednesday night, more than 10,000 people had visited the official memorial altar at Myeongdong Cathedral. Both official and local altars across the country have seen a steady stream of visitors. The memorial altar at Myeongdong Cathedral is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and will remain open until 5 p.m. on the day of the papal funeral on Saturday.
