Migrant boat tragedy: Death toll rises to 10, four still missing as vessel sinks near Malaysia

In the incident on Monday, May 11, a boat with 37 undocumented Indonesian migrants capsized while on its way to Malaysia.

IPOH – Four more victims from the ill-fated boat that sank in waters near Pangkor Island are still missing, after a 10th body was found on Thursday (May 14) night.

A Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) spokesman said the latest victim, a man, was found at 7.40pm.

“The body was found about 3.6 nautical miles (6.67km) from the location where the boat sank.

“The victim was brought to the marine police headquarters in Kampung Acheh at 9.35pm,” the spokesman said on Friday (May 15).

In the incident on Monday (May 11), a boat with 37 undocumented Indonesian migrants capsized while on its way to Malaysia.

Authorities have rescued 23 victims who are being detained, while 10 bodies have been found.
