NEW DELHI – Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, who had stoked a massive controversy with his remarks against the ‘Sanatana Dharma’, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Thursday. This was the first time Udhayanidhi met PM Modi since the Sanatana Dharm controversy.
During the meeting, Stalin invited the prime minister for the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games scheduled to be held in Chennai on January 19.
The Tamil Nadu minister also sought immediate release of National Disaster Relief Fund for the relief and restoration works in the state’s flood-affected areas.
“Glad to have invited Hon’ble Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Opening Ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Chennai on January 19th. On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government, I requested the Prime Minister for the immediate release of the National Disaster Relief Fund to undertake comprehensive relief, restoration and rehabilitation works in flood-affected districts of TN as requested by our Hon’ble Chief Minister MK Stalin,” he wrote in a social media post on X.
Prime Minister Modi, he further added, assured him that necessary steps will be taken in this regard.
“The Prime Minister assured us that he would take the necessary steps. Also discussed various subjects of public importance to Tamil Nadu particularly the multi-faceted development of sports in Tamil Nadu with the PM..,” he added.
Stalin’s remarks calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma were at the centre of the BJP’s attack against the Opposition Congress during the November assembly elections in five states.
His party DMK and the Congress are allies in Tamil Nadu as well as in the Opposition’s INDIA alliance.
