ISLAMABADThe Men in Green may have most of the limelight when it comes to cricket in Pakistan but women cricketers are quietly stepping up and letting their success make all the noise. Wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali just became the first batter from Pakistan to score a century in the Women’s T20 World Cup and the sixth woman to do so overall. Her-story made.

Ali set up an impressive win for Pakistan in the World Cup with a match-changing century against Ireland in Cape Town on Wednesday. The 70-run triumph put Pakistan in the third spot in the group with two points after England and India secured first and second positions, respectively. Twitter is all praises for the player, patting her back and rooting for the Pakistan women’s team.

The ICC marked this as “the first hundred by a Pakistan player in women’s T20Is”. According to ESPN, Ali is the sixth woman to score a century overall.

Former Pakistan captain Sana Mir proudly shared a photo with “the first centurion” in the women’s T20Is.

She was congratulated by actor Mawra Hocane, former cricketers Azhar Ali and Imran Nazir, and coach and former cricketer Javed Miandad.

Trinidadian cricket commentator and former cricketer Ian Raphael Bishop is clapping for her, along with the rest of us.

A proud moment for Pakistan.

Imagine what they’d do with “proper support and coaching”.
