Myanmar armed group says it captured regional military command after weeks of clashes

YANGON – The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) released photos claiming to have captured the Northeast Regional Military Headquarters (Ramakha) in Lashio on the afternoon of August 3rd.

On October 27, 2023, the three northern factions launched a military campaign called Operation 1027, and they attacked the security posts in northern Shan State. After China urged the northern Shan factions to maintain peace in the border region and hold a cease-fire as soon as possible, through their intervention, the delegation of NASK and the three northern allies held talks and agreed to a cease-fire in January 2024 They also controlled the cities they occupied.

Fighting continued daily around Lashio after the military bombarded the MNDAA-controlled city of Laokai in the early morning hours of July 14. On the same day, the MNDAA announced a ceasefire from July 14 to July 18 out of respect and honor for the four-day meeting of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

Although the ceasefire was announced, the MNDAA group continued to fire shock missiles into Lashio city and continued to attack the Tatmadaw’s battalions.

The MNDAA announced a cease-fire, but on the other hand, they carried out heavy attacks on the camp in Lashio until August 3, and now it has been announced that they have captured the Ramakha military headquarters.

Regarding the news that the MNDAA has taken over the Ramakha military headquarters, some of the Tatmadaw supporters wrote on the social network that they had lost contact with Ramakha in the morning of August 3, but they had resumed contact in the evening. It is said that the convoy that went to Ramakha was also attacked on the way. It is said that the troops joined by Ramakha have retreated and moved to another place. It was seen that the MNDAA entered the area but continued to fire and attack.

Currently, according to a person monitoring the military situation in Lashio, gunshots were heard around Ramakha in Lashio until 8:00 p.m. today (August 3rd), but the details of the situation on the ground are not yet known.
