YANGON – It is reported that 61 people, including a Chinese citizen, have been released from Myeik Prison and Kyaukphyu Mountain Detention Center.
Sixty-one prisoners serving sentences at Myeik Prison and Kyauk Phyu Taung Detention Center in Tanintharyi Region were released on January 4 under Section 401, Sub-section (1) of the Penal Code.
The National Defense and Security Council of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar granted amnesty to prisoners and detainees under the Pardon Order No. (2/2026) and Section 401, Sub-section (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. 32 (male), 6 (female), and 38 (female) prisoners in Myeik Prison and 23 (male) prisoners in Sandawut Village Subdistrict, Myeik Township, Kyaukphyu Taung Production Camp were granted amnesty.
Han Wen (30), a Chinese national who was detained in Myeik Prison under Section 13 (1) of the Lawaka Act, has been granted amnesty and is being deported in accordance with the procedure.
The officials have made arrangements for the return of those who have been granted amnesty to their homes.
