YANGON – The opening ceremony of the UN Peacekeeping Officer Course, jointly launched by the Myanmar Army and the Indian Army to familiarize officers and soldiers of the Myanmar Army with the UN peacekeeping operations, was held at the PARKROYAL Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw this afternoon (May 11).
The opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swar Lin, senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, Nay Pyi Taw Regional Command Commander, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar HE Mr. Abhay Thakur, military attachés, Indian Army training officers, Myanmar Army trainee officers and officials.
At the opening ceremony of the training, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swar Lin and his team viewed records of the Indian Army’s service in UN Peacekeeping operations and records of joint training between the Myanmar and Indian militaries in UN peacekeeping operations, which were explained by officials.
Then, the opening ceremony of the training was held, and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Kyaw Swar Lin delivered the opening speech. Next, HE Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, delivered the opening speech.
Then, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Commander-in-Chief (Army) and the attendees watched the “”Indian Army Contribution to the United Nation Peacekeeping Operations”” Video Clip, after which the Head of Training from the Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) of India explained the purpose of the training and the training on the UN peacekeeping process.
This is the 9th time the course has been held, and 30 trainee officers from the military (Army, Navy, and Air Force) will attend this course.
The course will provide both written and practical training on the history, structure, rules and procedures of UN peacekeeping operations, the ethics of UN peacekeeping missions, protection of civilians, protection of children, civil-military cooperation, patrolling, convoy security, construction of battalion bases, and Exercise Blue Helmet. The course will run until May 22.
