YANGON – As approximately 18.38% (3,559 million units) of electricity generated is lost annually, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy issued a statement on June 11 calling for electricity fraud to be stopped and for complaints to be filed if fraud is detected.
The transmission and distribution sectors, which are part of the national electricity system, lose an average of 18.38% (3,559 million units) of the electricity generated annually. Due to such losses, more electricity cannot be distributed to the people who want to use electricity, and the state and people’s finances are also losing money every day.
The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is making serious efforts to reduce and eliminate losses caused by technical losses and human error. It will accelerate the pace of technological improvements, regular maintenance of power lines and transformers, installation of smart meters, and the use of real-time monitoring systems for electricity consumption to ensure that technical losses are in line with internationally accepted loss percentage standards.
Similarly, losses caused by human fraud will be identified, and effective measures will be taken to prevent them through legal and management methods.
Therefore, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy has issued a statement asking the public to stop the frauds they are committing, prevent others from committing them if they are found, report them accurately, and cooperate by using electricity systematically to avoid wasting electricity and providing advice.
