Myanmar-Thai foreign ministers hold private bilateral meeting in Thailand

Discussions were held to further accelerate the joint fight against cross-border crime for the security and stability of the region.

YANGON – A delegation led by Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and a delegation led by Thai Foreign Minister Sihasad Phuong Kaew held a bilateral meeting in Phuket, Thailand on Wednesday, February 18.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on further strengthening the existing friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand, and discussed ways to enhance people-to-people exchanges, including trade, investment, education, public health, and other cooperation between the two countries, as well as issues related to Myanmar laborers in Thailand, according to a statement from the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, they discussed ways to further accelerate the fight against cross-border crimes, including illegal border trade, online fraud, human trafficking, and drug trafficking, for the security and stability of the border region, and discussed closer cooperation between the two countries on regional and international fronts.

Following the meeting, the Union Minister and the delegation attended a working dinner hosted by the Thai Foreign Minister.
