YANGON – The literary community initially reported that three people, including writer U Tin Nyunt and his son, were arrested.
It is reported that the arrest was made at the home of writer U Tin Nyunt in Thanlyin Township at around 2 a.m. on April 23, and he is currently being held at Thanlyin Police Station.
The reason for the arrest of writer U Tin Nyunt is said to be because of three books: Dog Training, I Taught Generals, and U Than Shwe’s Travels, which his son published.
A woman who was selling the three books through a social media platform was also arrested, and the books were reportedly published in 2017.
Currently, it is known that a case has been opened against writer U Tin Nyunt under Section 505 (a). The investigation into the incident is ongoing and we will continue to report on any further information we learn.
Writer U Tin Nyunt, who has worked as a teacher for over 20 years, has written and published over 50 books on philosophy and religion. The book “”Tears Falling from the Yoma River”” was adapted into a film, and actor Myint Myat won an Academy Award for the role.
In 2011, he won the Youth Literature Award presented by the Tun Foundation for his book “Youth and Thoughts,” and in 2012, he won the All-Scholarship Political Literature Award for his book “Democracy Paradigm.” In 2017, he won the National Literature Award for his book “Teacher’s Diary.”
