Myanmar’s SAC extends state of emergency for another six months

The meeting of the National Defence and Security Council decided to extend the period for declaring a state of emergency for the entire country by 6 months based on the current situation in the country, sources said.

NAYPYITAW – The meeting of the National Defence and Security Council decided to extend the period for declaring a state of emergency for the entire country by 6 months based on the current situation in the country, sources said.

On January 31, a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council was held at the office of the Chairman of the State Administration Council in Nay Pyi Taw and Acting President U Myint Swe, Vice President U Henry Van Thio, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat, Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister for Defence General Tin Aung San, Union Minister for Home Affairs Lieutenant General Yar Pyae, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, Union Minister for Border Affairs Lieutenant General Tun Tun Naung, Secretary of the State Administration Council (SAC) Lt. Gen. Aung Lin Dwe, and Joint Secretary Lt. Gen. Ye Win Oo, who were specially invited, attended.

First of all, the Chairman of the State Administration Council presented the circumstances of the national defense and security duties carried out during the 6-month period, the circumstances of the incidents of violence in the areas of some ethnic armed groups, situations that are being suppressed due to drug production and trade and online fraud activities in ethnic armed areas, state development and the conditions for the promotion of the education sector, preparations being made to hold a free and fair multi-party democratic general election, preparations for the national census, and regarding the conditions to extend the right to extend for another 6 months in accordance with the Constitution as it is necessary to continue to bring the country to a normal state of stability and calmness, according to Article 425 of the Constitution, so as to proceed with the needs and the points to be done without losing momentum.

Then, on the presentation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, members of the National Defense and Security Council, Those who were specially invited had a round review and discussion, and again, they presented their support and discussion for extending the term by 6 months.

After that, Acting President U Myint Swe informed the National Defense and Security Council that the state of emergency has been extended for another 6 months in accordance with the consensus decision of all the members of the National Defense and Security Council to continue the anti-terrorism process in light of the current situation in the country.
