KUALA LUMPUR – A witness in the RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case told the High Court here that she did not prepare her own witness statement used in the trial.
Datuk Siti Zauyah Mohd Desa, 63, who is a former deputy secretary-general at the Finance Ministry, admitted that she did not prepare the statement when she was asked during cross-examination by Najib’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah here on Thursday (Aug 25).
She said her witness statement was prepared by two subordinates and shown to her later.
Muhammad Shafee had suggested that the witness did not know the full details of the statement.
“I was only shown the witness statement at the last minute. I was not given the opportunity to read the document in its entirety.
“I do not know whether the content in the document is within my knowledge. It was prepared by my staff without my presence,” she said.
Najib is on trial for 25 charges in total – four for abuse of power that allegedly brought him financial benefit to the tune of RM2.28bil; and 21 for money laundering involving the same amount of money.
The hearing continues before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah this afternoon.
