JAKARTA – A senior politician of the NasDem Party said that the party could be open to the idea of backing the ticket of president-elect Prabowo Subianto’s nephew Budi Satrio Djiwandono and television personality Raffi Ahmad in the Jakarta gubernatorial election scheduled for November.
NasDem election campaign operation head Prananda Paloh, the son of party chairman Surya Paloh, said that the party leadership is now weighing its options on who to back in the Jakarta gubernatorial election, including the Budi Satrio-Raffi ticket.
“Budi is a good a friend of mine. We haven’t communicated the plan, but all options are on the table,” Prananda told a press briefing on Monday.
Budi Satrio is the son of New Order era Central Bank governor Sudrajad Djiwandono, who is married to Prabowo’s older sister Biantiningsih Djojohadikusumo.
Raffi is a television personality and an entrepreneur who has widely been seen as an ally of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
Earlier this week, Golkar politician Dico Ganundito said that he was considering Raffi as his running mate in the Central Java gubernatorial election, also scheduled for November.
In early May, Golkar Party chairman Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that Raffi could be a strong contender in regional elections in either Jakarta or Central Java.
