SEPANG: The move by authorities to act and investigate certain individuals must not be politicised, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said while it is normal for one to have loyalty and political leanings, authorities must be allowed to carry out their work, even if it involves individuals or political parties to which they have an affinity.
“I understand that when action is taken against prominent figures, it becomes controversial. Their influence will often cause the people to challenge the investigations.
“Your loyalty towards anyone or any party is your prerogative.
“But if there is proof and a strong case, I don’t care about their position of influence. Stern action must be taken,” he said when launching a symposium on good governance on Monday (Jan 8).
Anwar quipped that a benefit of his imprisonment was that it had left him fearless.
“I have lost the feeling of fear. So, if an action needs to be taken, it will be done.
“If someone comes to me and claims that corruption is going on, it will not be tolerated,” he added.
Anwar said that top graft buster Tan Sri Azam Baki was fully aware of his stand on corruption.
“Even if it involves parties which support me or those against me, it will not influence the decision (to investigate),” he said.
