KUALA LUMPUR – 109 Malaysian citizens are stranded in the town of Laukkaing, northern Myanmar, following the recent unrest in the region, says Wisma Putra.
In a statement on Monday (Nov 20), the Foreign Ministry said many are victims of fraudulent job offers.
The ministry said they had coordinated rescue efforts with the Malaysian Embassy in Yangon, the Malaysian Embassy in Beijing and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Kunming.
These efforts involve collaboration with China and Myanmar’s foreign ministries to ensure the safe return of all Malaysians.
The police and Immigration Department are also working closely to get the Malaysians back home.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated their commitment to address the issue of Malaysians who have become victims of fraudulent job syndicates operating overseas.
The ministry also reminded Malaysians seeking employment abroad to exercise caution and thoroughly verify the legitimacy of any job offers they receive.
Wisma Putra added that the Malaysian embassy in Yangon, Myanmar can be reached at (+951)-220 230/248/249 or by email at email@example.com.
