PETALING JAYA – Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s statement that PAS “wants to kill” Umno is absurd, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

The PAS secretary-general said the political history of this country shows that Umno has been determined for a long time to eliminate PAS, including an attempt to ban it at some point in the past.

Takiyuddin said that as a party that puts Islam as its principle, PAS is always determined and acted to approach Umno to unite Muslims and Malays in this country.

In a statement, he said PAS is committed to all efforts for the unity of the ummah that was also initiated across people of various races and religions to create peaceful and harmonious and democratic channels based on the rule of law.

“In that regard, PAS will continue to be open and ready to hold meetings, discussions and negotiations with any party by focusing on points of commonality and bridging differences for the good of the country and people,” he said.

Mohamad said, “They have never been loyal and sincere, and shamelessly cheated all parties, especially Umno’s ‘widow’ (referring to Bersatu).”

Mohamad had explained earlier that Umno was working with DAP in the unity government because DAP was not pretentious, and they do not fake friendships.

In his speech during the opening of the Youth, Wanita and Puteri assemblies on Wednesday night (Jan 11), he said that the Islamist party had been talking to all political sides, including Perikatan Nasional.

Takiyuddin said PAS was confident that only with the unity of all political parties formed based on sincerity and good intentions.

“We can guarantee the formation of a government that is fair and equitable to all people of various races, religions and cultures and will then be well received by all,” he added.
