Pet grooming industry booming as Spring Festival approaches

China's urban areas have more than 100 million pet dogs and cats and as people prepare for the traditional Chinese new year, pets are also getting festive make overs.

BEIJING – In Lianyungang, East China’s Jiangsu province, the approach of Spring Festival means pet grooming businesses get busier.

As people prepare for the traditional Chinese new year, pets also get festive make-overs.

China’s urban areas have more than 100 million pet dogs and cats, and over 99.8 million families raise pets in the country, according to a 2020 report by Pethadoop, an analytical company.

In the next three years, the value of China’s pet industry is expected to maintain its steady growth to reach more than 400 billion yuan in 2023, according to market research firm iResearch.
