MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday had a phone chat where both leaders discussed strengthening their partnership in various areas of cooperation.

“Just had a good conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz,” Marcos said in a social media post.

“We talked about strengthening our defense and economic cooperation, working together on regional issues, and creating more opportunities for our people,” he added.

Marcos also said he thanked Merz for the invitation to visit Germany again soon.

In March 2024, Marcos embarked on a three-day official visit in Berlin, where he witnessed the signing of government-to-government agreements in Berlin—a joint declaration of intent on strengthening maritime cooperation and a cooperation program between the Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training.

Marcos also met with the Filipino community in Germany.
