MANILA – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Sunday announced the postponement of the rehabilitation of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) for a month.
This was confirmed by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon during the launch of the Pamilya Pasa promo.

“He said, ‘Go back to the drawing board,’ because he has listened to the concerns of the residents of Metro Manila,” Dizon told reporters.

“And he has also listened to experts who have informed him that there are more effective ways and new technology that we can use to finish the project ahead of projected time,” said Dizon in mixed English and Filipino.
The project, or what the government deemed as Edsa rebuild, was originally set to start mid-June. However, Dizon said that the president instructed them to revamp their plan within a month.
The Edsa rehabilitation aims to rebuild and reconstruct its 23.8-kilometer southbound and northbound lanes, which Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan said will cover 200 kilometers of lanes if each individual lane in both directions is counted.
However, Dizon said that the president instructed them to revamp their plan within a month.
“He gave one month for DPWH, and other agencies like DOTr and MMDA to present a plan to shorten this. He said, if we can do this in six months, let’s do this in six months,” Dizon noted.
Dizon earlier assured the public that the whole stretch of Edsa would not be closed as the construction will be done lane by lane. With this, Dizon said that the Edsa Carousel will remain operational for commuters.
