Philippines beats New Zealand in historic Women’s World Cup first win

The victory gave the Philippines its first three points in Group A following its defeat to Switzerland in the opening game.

MANILA – Philippines defeated co-host New Zealand, 1-0, for a historic first win in the Women’s World Cup on Tuesday in Wellington, New Zealand.

Sarina Bolden delivered the first-ever World Cup goal for the debuting Filipinas with a header in the 24th minute.

The victory gave the Philippines its first three points in Group A following its defeat to Switzerland in the opening game.
