Philippines’ September inflation hits 6-month high on higher food, transport costs

The September figure meant inflation remained within the official 2 to 4 percent target band.

MANILA – Inflation rose to a six-month high of 1.7 percent in September, slightly quicker than August’s 1.5 percent on higher transport and food costs, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday.

But the latest clip was better than the 2-percent median estimate of 14 economists polled by the Inquirer last week.

It also fell within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ forecast range of 1.5 to 2.3 percent for September.
